On the morning of my birthday, my sweet kids decided to get up very early(did I mention early?!) so that they could fix me breakfast in bed. My 2nd child is the one behind the idea and she is the one who made sure to get up early enough to make it. Such a thoughtful girl. This is what I woke up to...
As they handed me my delicious food, they explained a few problems they had while preparing it for me. (I was bracing myself for whatever they may say, knowing I would soon have to eat it!) They couldn't figure out why I would buy a cereal that kept making the milk disappear. They had to keep adding more and more milk because the cereal kept drinking it all. (Which explains the soggy Grape-Nut Cereal!) Then they explained that they couldn't find the butter for my toast, so they had to get more out of the freezer. Since frozen butter is hard to spread, they all decided only one chunk of butter would be best. After spreading the one chunk of butter, they "sprinkled" sugar all over the toast because they know how much I like sugar. One child did admit that only one slice of toast fell on the floor, but they did pick it back up before anyone stepped on it...they couldn't remember which one it was though. You may notice that there is no drink with my breakfast, I was told that was because I don't allow drinks upstairs. How very smart of them.
Hearts and pictures were quickly colored before bringing my food upstairs (makes me wonder how long my cereal had been soaking!) Finally...the last thing they put on was the cute little flower. My 2nd child bought that with her own money because she "knew pink was my favorite color and I would just love it with my breakfast in bed". Just love that girl! I am not a morning person and most definitely don't like to eat when I get up. But I had 4 excited kids sitting on my bed anxiously waiting for me to take that first bite and after all the effort they put into giving me a wonderful breakfast in bed...I dove right in. I have the best kids!!
As fun as my birthday always is...My birthday always forces me to reflect on life. I always think back on the past and hope that I have become a better person than what I was a year ago. I think about the lessons I have learned through both the good times and the hardships. (Interesting how often we learn and grow more from the trials) One of the greatest lessons I have learned this past year is that when we put all our faith in the Lord and rely completely on Him, life will always be as it should. Life may not make sense at the time, but we need to have faith that eventually it will. I often think about those in my life that have stood by my side and loved me unconditionally through the ups and downs. Those friends and my children are the blessings I will forever be most thankful for.
